Programs
Environmental Awareness
OKE is proud to be continuing our Environmental Awareness program. Through this program we hope to help our community to better understand their “footprint” while also learning different ways to give back.
The 2011-2012 Pull Tab collection has begun.
The school with the most weight of tabs will win a visit from Ronald McDonald performing a magic show at their school. Last school year OKE recycled 220 lbs. of pull tabs.
We donate our tabs to our local Ronald McDonald House to be used in the direct operations of our local house. Through the continued support of individuals, corporations, and organizations the house brings in an average of $8,000 a year in pull-tabs. If you would like to send in your tabs, there is a donation box in each hallway. You can help by sending your pull-tabs back to school in a zip lock bag clearly labeled with your child’s grade level.
Remember: Pull tabs can be found on soda cans, soups and pet food.
International Walk to School Day
October 5, 2011
In 2009, millions of children, parents, and community leaders from 40 countries around the world joined together in celebration of International Walk to School Month. The goal of the walk varies from community to community. Some walks rally for safer and improved streets, some to promote healthier habits and some to conserve the environment. Whatever the reason, International Walk to School events encourage a more walkable world - one community at a time.
Look for more information in the Take Home Folders the week of September 21.
Each teacher will receive 20 free books for 20 SunnyD labels per class. This promotion ends NOVEMBER 30, 2011. Please help by sending in to your teacher SunnyD UPC labels (labels on containers 12oz or smaller are not eligible).

Frito Lay Chip Recycling Program
For each bag we collect, our school will earn $.02. Two cents might not sound like a lot, but last year our school earned $150.00 in trash. Please help by saving Frito Lay chip bags. You can send them in with your child and a collection bin will be located in the cafeteria.
Thank you for all the help in the cafeteria to make this a success!
Do you know what you can do to be environmentally conscious? Do you know how simple it can be to make a difference to our planet? Listed are several simple ways you and your family can make a difference.
