OKE has great opportunities for parents to be involved in the day-to-day events of their children. We would like to encourage ALL parents to be involved in their child’s school either in the classroom or other areas of interest. Here are descriptions of some of those opportunities.

Home Room Parent: Two parents per classroom.  Work closely with the grade level coordinators to plan two parties for the school year.  They will coordinate the theme baskets for the carnival; organize parents to do the teacher’s workbasket and EureKa, JA, Lift, Math Magic and other various teacher needs.

EureKa! Science Enrichment: EureKa! is a hands-on science program that has been created by OKE parents. All students experience one hands-on science experiment each six weeks. Assistance is needed to help with small groups of students. NO science experience necessary!!

Junior Achievement:
This parent will teach students the basic concepts of business and economics and how they relate to everyday life.  Teach JA for 30 minutes once a week for five weeks.  All materials and training are provided.

AR (Accelerated Reader):
Assist students in the computer lab taking AR tests from 7:50 until 8:20 a.m.

“Bonzer Bash” Carnival:
Help plan, organize, set up, and volunteer during the school carnival.

Clinic: Help with beginning clerical duties. Assist with vision and hearing screening.

Hospitality:
Assist with teacher treats during the year and Teacher Appreciation week.

Library:
Assist with checking books in and out, shelving books, and helping students when needed.

Lunchroom: Monitor students during lunch periods. Most help is needed during the kindergarten and first grade lunches.

School Store “Outback Outpost”:
Assist with selling of school supplies and novelty items. The school store is typically open once a month during all lunch periods. Check www.okepta.org for specific dates.

Textbooks: Help label and distribute textbooks at the beginning of the year and collect them at the end of the year.

Workroom: Help with copying, doing die-cuts, laminating, etc. Training will be provided. (No children in the workroom please. Some machines can be dangerous.)

Raptor Check-in Help: Help the front office check in parents with the pre-printed raptor badges during special events.

Bilingual Contact: Be a contact for parents who may not feel comfortable volunteering because of language barriers.

Or, you may be a parent who would prefer to be emailed or called as needs arise, which is GREAT! Please fill out the volunteer form so the VIPS Coordinator has your contact information.
